The sword fittings in shakudo with copper, gold and shibuichi feature kiri and Hō-ō badges (crests of the Mikado), and menuki by no less than twenty two different artists including such eminent makers as Hidekuni, Kunishige, Mitsuhiro, Tsūjo, Yoshisada and Sōmin, 85 in all.

The album contains circa. 72 signatures, some with inscriptions, and musical quotations, largely one per page. Quietus Receipt or Quittance granted for the entries in the Great Roll of the Pipe for 3 William and Mary for the Town of Southampton, and the revenues of Thomas Everard, Sheriff of Southampton for the period Michelmas 1691 to Michelmas 1692; subscribed as examined 13 December 1694 by W.Whittaker, deputy Clerk of the Pipe.  The entries for specific sums including the Mayor, bailiffs and burgesses, etc.  Manuscript on vellum, 12in x 48in, with revenue stamp. Together with a group of eight documents on vellum relating to property in the Isle of Wight, a number quite substantial – the largest being of 11 membranes, 1809 – 1811; and 40 leaves only, plus a few fragments, from the Corpus Juris Civilis of Justinean, circa. 1520. Folio, printed in red and black; some staining and marginal damage to some leaves.

Printed broadside notice, 16½in x 10½in describing the vase as ‘….supported by four dolphins; and the Plinth is covered with shells and coral in imitation of a Sea-shore….the sides are Trophies, composed of Nautical Scientific Instruments…used especially in the Icy Seas …...chasings …....representing the Hecla and Griper….the fourth [side] the following inscription: To William Edward Parry….in Commemoration of a Voyage of Discovery performed in His Majesty’s Ships Hecla and Griper in the years 1819 and 1820 in which he effected a Passage through Lancaster Sound into the Polar Sea: and having discovered many new lands…..thus carrying the British flag into seas over which no ship had yet passed….’etc. 1821.  Fold marks.

Sir Edward Parry was born in Bath and, according to the Dictionary of National Biography, was presented with a silver vase ‘to the value of 500 guineas’ by the Bath & West of England Society upon his return from this voyage in search of the north-west passage.
